Yoga for the pelvic floor

The pelvic floor is the foundation of our body. It is the base muscle group of our core. It holds our organs ( the uterus or prostate, the bladder, and our rectum) and their contents within our pelvis. And releases our bodies waste or toxins. Pain discomfort or incompetence in any of these areas (or the areas that provide support for these muscles) is our bodies way of communicating a need for balance in the pelvic floor.

Life happens! We age, we experience injury and trauma, our hormone levels shift, we develop habits and our bodies compensate. This compensation response creates a give and take. Muscles over develop and shorten pulling out skeletal structure out of alignment and parts of our body become “bossy “ or take over for the hyper mobile or lax parts of our bodies. We find ourselves with “bad” posture, weak core, tight backs and necks, sore hips, shortness of breath, blood pressure issues. Sound familiar?

Why you may benefit from it, Why it is the perfect way to balance your body. And why it is essential to add to you pelvic floor therapy journey!

Yoga for the pelvic floor helps you find balance and discover where the body is compensating and where the body is lax. It is a pathway to discovering movement that will bring the body into balance or neutral. From neutral you can begin to retrain your bodies idea of comfortable so it flows into every movement you make day and night.

With private instruction you can create a routine that works for your lifestyle. It’s hard to find the time and/or motivation to do the homework required long term. Yoga for the pelvic floor keeps you accountable with weekly sessions and language and cues that you can use in your regular work out routines.

Learning to identify and engage specific muscle groups and lengthen or release others will serve you in any form of physical activity. Learning to find neutral positioning for the pelvis will change the way you sit, stand, walk, run, and sleep.
